The Manteca Elementary School is provided with clean drinking water
In part, thanks to a $21253 technical assistance grant from the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund of the State Water Resources Control Board, Nile Garden Elementary School will now receive safe water from the City of Manteca by integrating it with its public water system.
The Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) provides technical assistance to the City of Manteca to assist them in complying with the Construction Financing Agreement for the consolidation of Nile Garden School and Manteca Water Works. Our role includes overseeing deliverables submissions, invoicing, and quarterly reports, along with community education services. As part of RCAC's assistance, the city recently hired Wood Rogers as its engineering firm.
In addition to the $47 million Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund and $300,000 from the Department of Water Resources Proposition 84 grant program, the City will be able to construct approximately 6500 feet of transmission lines, a new groundwater well, and an arsenic treatment system. As part of the technical assistance grant, the City will also engage the public in providing project updates.
As of right now, Nile Garden Elementary School in Manteca is reliant on a single groundwater well to meet its drinking water needs. A well has a history of contaminating groundwater, repeatedly exceeding maximum contaminants levels for arsenic and 12,3-trichloropropane. As a result of this project, these issues will be mitigated and the school will be able to offer safe drinking water to its students and faculty.
As a municipality and a school district, Manteca Unified School District emphasize the importance of working together to realize this project's benefits.
A representative of Manteca Unified School District said the district is looking forward to implementing the Nile Garden Well 30 Project. It will establish a new source of potable water for the campus that will be vital for the ongoing operation of the school. It is also vital to the ongoing modernization of the school and to the health of the surrounding community that this project be undertaken. As the project continues to develop, MUSD values the support of State and Municipal partners.
Elba Mijango, Associate Engineer from City of Manteca, also recognizes the value of this project: The City of Manteca is happy to be working with the State Water Board and the Manteca Unified School District on the Nile Garden Well 30 Project because it will provide drinking water to Nile Garden Elementary School and add another water source to our community. Until this project is complete, the City staff looks forward to collaborating with the community and working together to accomplish it.
